Sullivan is a Past President of The Norfolk County Bar Association, Past President of the Quincy Bar Association, Past member of the Massachusetts Judicial Nominating Committee, a Mass Bar Foundation Life Fellow, a recipient of The Norfolk Bar Association’s Award “For Outstanding Leadership” in 2001, The Norfolk Bar Association’s Libertine Award “For Outstanding Service and Dedication” in 2005 as well as the Quincy Bar Association’s “Man of the Year Award” for outstanding service in 2007. He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association Access to Justice Committee and Committee for Judicial Independence. Attorney Sullivan currently serves on the Norfolk County Superior Court Bench Bar Committee. He has participated as a panel member on many continuing legal education seminars and is the co-author of numerous articles and books on criminal law. Richard J. Sweeney was only the second Boston Police Officer to be awarded the prestigious Theodore Roosevelt Award. Awardees are police officers who have overcome an adversity whether injury, illness or other disability, and who have rendered, and continue to render, outstanding and praiseworthy service to their respective police department. In addition to his other medals and citations when a Boston Police Sergeant, Richard J. Sweeney was first appointed as a Council member to the Norfolk Bar Association in 2003. He has served in various capacities including Co-Chair of the Membership Committee, Legislative Committee, Public Relations Committee and the Bench Bar Committee where, for the past two years he is the representative to all of the District Courts in Norfolk County. Attorney Sweeney is currently Chairman of the Continuing Education Committee and remains on the other committees as an active and respected member.
